21 and a bit again

Well finally back.  What a week, what with my little grandson (8 months) wearing us out with a vomiting bug  and then my daughter down with the same thing I am not sure which way is up.  

I made this card for a lady on her 80th birthday and of course I was way behind as usual.  Each year I write out my New Year resolutions, they always include take better care of your nails, get organize for events which need a card and present and clear out the loft.  The nails are still not looked after enough, the loft is so full you actually can't move and you know the situation on the cards and presents.

What an awful week

Thanks to everyone, my hand is feeling better but my leg (ruptured muscle) is still giving me pain.  Cannot believe this household, I feel like saying  "Doom, Doom, Doom", I think this came from  Baldrick in Blackadder and he certainly knew what he was talking about.  The last few months have been  nothing but bad news and problems.

I now have an 8th month old grandson who has completely worn us out over the last four days.  Projectile vomiting is an understatement. NHS is marvellous, ended up telephoning them three times over the weekend because we were  worried and I must say they rang back with a doctor twice to make sure that he was okay and things hadn't got worse. It was someone different  each time and we ended up with three different versions of what we should be doing.  The vomiting started very early hours of Saturday morning and he is still not well.  I tried to catch up on housework yesterday, you know those exciting jobs that you have to do like cleaning the bathroom, with stomach problems you need to have a clean bathroom.   Of course, now my daughter has caught the vomiting bug, I fear things are not going to get better anytime soon.  Lets hope her other half and my husband don't catch it, cannot live with men being ill, it is a nightmare.

Childhood Memories

Hello everyone,  my hand  feels a little better now and I am hoping it will be okay, I think keeping it straped and trying to protect it for a few days has made the difference.

I hope everyone is enjoying our few days of sunshine.  I have managed to get quite a lot of washing done, nothing like be able to dry your washing outside. 

My latest card is featuring a Lili of the Valley image, all their images are just lovely.   I must buy myself at least one of the little boys playing with their toys, these remind me of my childhood when everything was different.  In those days you would be sent off for the day, no one worried about health and safety and I can never remember anyone getting hurt except for the odd skinned knee.  We would all dash off on our bikes which were frequently made up of old bikes put together, I remember mine was an old frame found on waste land near where I lived in Tilbury (local dumping ground for things people didn't want) and then we picked up various wheels etc, painted them in what ever colours we could find at home and the only expense was new tyres and brakes.  Mine was a drop handle bike and I would go tearing off with several of my siblings and friends.  I was one of eight children so there was always someone to go with.

We would take bottles of water and jam sandwiches and that was us set for the day.  We would often go to the moat which surrounds Tilbury Fort and swim in that, of course there were signs saying "No Swimming" but no one took any notice and the place was packed on warm days.  You could meet all your friends and have a lovely day out for nothing.  Now it is completely cut off and you can no longer go and sit by the water and eat sandwiches or jump in if you feel like it.   I suppose if you pay to go in you can have your sandwiches there, but as a child it was fun and I have some great pictures of people sitting there by the moat.  I remember the hand knitted swimsuit episode which was disastrous, once in the water and it would be down by your knees.

Good news and bad

Lets start with the good news.  I would like to say Hi to my new follower and a BIG THANK YOU to Pam for doing a Blog Candy which I was lucky enough to win.  I was so surprised to actually win something.  My daughter had been looking at Pam's blog and catching up and what was happening and said that I had won and I thought she was joking.   I was especially pleased to have won the Grand Nestablities, my daughter had given me a Grand Calibur and two Edgeabilities  for my birthday at the end of last year and  I have been using it for all my nesties but didn't have any other large ones, so thank you again Pam for such a super candy.

Bad news is that I may be visiting the Doctor again, last month it was with a ruptured leg muscle and now I have the feeling that the pain in my right hand (of course I am right handed) may be tendonitis.  I will see how it goes today and if it is still giving me pain I will have to make a visit to see him.

I have a few packs of cards that are 5 by 7 and quite honestly I find them difficult to actually use, I never seem to be find that my layouts look good.  But I decided last night that I would try and use at least one of them.   This is what I produced, not sure about it now, but as I have been about a week without posting anything - I was getting withdrawal symptoms.

Tired and exhausted

Would like to say Hi to everyone and thank you to Kate for being my new follower.  I hope everyone's day was better than mine.   It was one of those days when nothing seemed to be going right and you know when you get really irrated at yourself it just makes you miserable, well that was my day.  I am not sure whether I will get anything done tonight, I am definitely going to bed early as I now have a thumping headache.

This is my second card of the day (click here to find my first) using the Pink Petticoat digi stamp.  This time I have worked in red, black and white.  The scissors have been around my house for about two years and never found anything to use them on.

All Sewn Up

This is my first card for today.  I have used a digi stamp from Pink Petticoat.  I was quite surprised how cheap their digi's are, worth a look at their site if you haven't heard of them.  In this set you have four sewing machines (all the same) on an A4 page, or you can have four with different sentiments underneath and you get little reels of cotton all for £1.99.  This is what I call a bargain.

I raised the image on foam pads  and added some glitter to the roses on the sewing machine.

Wild Thing

My card of the day, is for a child and the image comes from Woodware.  I find their images always stamp out beautifully.  

I love this backing paper which comes from DCWV and is called "All About Boys", it has some lovely papers in the pack including, comic heroes, pirates, cowboys, robots, circus and wild animals.  Beautiful papers if you are a scrapbooker, you could produce some lovely pages.

My latest card is another digi from Birdscards.com. I was originally going to include some candy or gems but in the end decided that the backing paper was too pretty to be covered.   Using pinflair I slightly raised the balloon on the card.

New follower and Liebster Award

First I would like to say Hi to my new follower - sorry it has taken me a few days but I have been down with an awful cold, sore throat and generally feeling miserable.  Passed onto me by my little Grandson of 8 months and now I can see why he has been so irritable.  Off to work today but have a card to go on later today.

Even more Cupcakes

Last night  I sat happily colouring in digi stamps and when I came to look at papers to use, nothing I had matched in any way.  So my big tip for me today is look first at your papers and then do your colouring, I am sure all you excellent cardmakers have found this out already and are shaking your heads at me.

Well I decided in the end to use the spare image I had done the day before of the Lili of the Valley cupcake stamp, the same as my last card. This time I decided to add a cupcake recipe which I aged so that it looked like it had been used many times; I used my Tim Holtz blending tool which is really excellent for this.  I found that the boxes of cards that you buy often have a thick sheet of card in them and the reverse side is white so you can place your picture on this and distress it without using good paper or having to clean off your craft mat.  I have been using the same piece of card for about two months now.

You Can Never Have Too Many Cupcakes

I decided to make my card for my sister using my new goodies Lili of the Valley stamp and Marianne die.  At first the stamp was driving me mad because I couldn’t seem to get a complete image, first it was the middle missing and then the bottom.  I seem to have trouble with new stamps, I think it does need that stamping out a few times before it seems to work – or is that just me being bad at stamping.  

Finally had a good image, I went for pastel shades and pink papers because I have a complete 12 x 12 pad of pink called Rose Colored Glasses from G.C.D. Studios.

Small heart charm came from one of those sets you see for about £1.50, I think this was from the Works about 18 months ago.  I remember buying several just for the charms and ribbon.

I used Ranger Glossy Accents to highlight the cherries, you can just about see it on this picture, but trust me it's there.  The whole image was coloured in using the usual Promarkers.

The image is coloured in using Promarkers and added some gold glitter glue onto the petals.

The orange die is a Marianne craftable die (CR1201), click here to see the actual die as you can't see the whole thing on the card.  The marianne die is mounted on a white scalloped circle, embossed with Cuttlebug Swiss Dot embossing folder.

What a week

Wanted to say have a good day to my three new followers and hi to the others who I did not mention before and thank you for looking at my blog. I am not sure about how these blogs work properly yet and I am relying on my daughter (Kent Crafter) to tell me how to do things as we go. So I am going to chase down all your blogs today and have a good read of them.

Not having a good week, last Friday I had the fiasco with BT and no Internet or telephone for five days. Now I have a ruptured muscle in my leg. I didn't win the lottery on Tuesday; it just goes on and on. I did, however, manage to buy just a few goodies this week. I was desperate for some Spellbinders dies; of course you all know how that feels. I bought Spellbinders Large Octagons, Heart Circles and Classic Scalloped Circles. Of course with the bad leg my daughter and I decided we had to have a shop with not much walking, so we opted for Oysterstamps at Rochester as you can park outside. Whilst in the shop I found  a cute Marianne die and a Lea'bilities die and to my surprise they just appeared in my hand at the checkout. What with treating my daughter to a couple of goodies my purse was a little thinner on leaving. These are a couple of pictures of my new goodies.

"Little Old Wine Drinker Me"

This was a card I made for my brother-in-law's birthday.  He's a man who likes holidays, good wine and good food.

I used the Hobby Art Tuscany stamps to build up the scenery and coloured them in using Promarkers.  I like the fact you can position the stamps to your own liking to create a different picture everytime.  The below picture shows the sunflowers raised slightly using Pinflair glue (thanks to my daughter) to add depth to the card.

I think the colours of the backing card compliment the scenery really well.  I was really proud of my colouring, especially on the detail on the mountain.  Unfortunately I didn't make a note of the colours I used, so it's going to be really hard to get it looking so good next time.

Typically I nearly ruined the picture by marking my original card with butter!  Thankfully we were able to rescue the picture without damaging it and place it on the new, perfect card!  Phew!

I decided not to add a sentiment as I felt it would clutter the card too much, I think that was definitely the right idea.
